Clifton and Leah Garrett Farmhouse on the Move.

In a bit of "well, at least..." preservation news, the Clifton and Leah Garrett farmhouse appears to be headed to another location rather than the landfill. While it would be great if the whole farm had been preserved rather than converted to yet-another-apartment-complex, it's some solace. I haven't had a chance to track down where it's headed to, so if someone out there knows, please pass it along.

Sheesh, I leave out of town for a few weeks, and there she goes. Anyone know yet where it was moved and who took possession? Man, I just loved that house. Wish it were mine I could live in.

My husband remembers back in the 70s when he worked on Garret's farm where the other brother's house is up the road. He remembers the tobacco and cotton fields and part of garret road was dirt! I loved that house as well. We thought about looking into buying it from the family about the time of the zoning change but it never panned out. I tried looking for Kountry Boys website but they don't have one so I don't know where it went. It rode off into the night this weekend, as the site is empty today except for whats left of the foundation.

The Garret farmhouse is in good hands as we plan to revive its unique culture and add on to its history.

That is my grandparents house. I hate to see it go. But atleast they are theying to presevre the history of the house and moving it rather then tearing it down and building over it. In response to the top comment, my dad told me they where moving it to Carrboro.

My name is Chris, I am the individual that purchased the Garrett farm house and had it relocated in the attempt to prolong the integrity and character of a beautiful home place. I am happy to report that the house is now finished! It sits on a new piece of land where it will continue to overlook a working farm. I do have pictures and would be happy to send them or post them if someone could tell me how to post. Thank you to the Garrett family for allowing me to make my own memories in there once lived in home.

Hi, Chris R. Nice post and glad you saved the farm house. We want to move a historically significant building from Goldsboro to just off Garrett Rd. and wondered if you would share who moved yours. Good experience? Terribly costly? New at this. Steff
