oGary,

Just down the street at 521 N. Mangum and 103 Hunt are two surviving houses that appear to have originally have been single-family. For years they seemed to be rooming houses/apartments/flop houses or something of the sort. Ominously enough, they are now boarded up.

Any idea what's going on with these?

I have been viewing your site along with my mother. Her mother was a Rigsbee. Her great grandfather had a residence at 415 N. Mangum St. at some time. This is based on family records.

A few of her family members are buried at the family cemetary on the Duke campus outside of the east gate at Wallace Wade. It's surrounded by a stone wall.

Do you have any archived pics of the residence that stood at 415 N. Mangum?

Any idea what period we are talking about with your great-great grandfather? I'd have to guess 1880s-1890s at the latest - ? That area became commercial by the early 20th century, which is when these buildings were built:

What was your great-great-grandfather's name?

Gary-
I believe that he died around 1918.
I'll check with my mother. We think that he may have lived where Crutchfield's Open Air Market had been. T.J. Rigsbee was his name, but there were 2 TJ's, I'll get the details.
Can I e-mail you directly with info?

Thanks,

Seth

Hi, My grandmother was a Rigsbee. She was Mamie Rigsbee. Trying to figure out if she is related to those buried on the Duke Campus/Erwin Mills area. She was born in Wake County. Any names of other Rigsbees buried at this site could be helpful. Her father was Walter J. Rigsbee. Any info is helpful. Thanks so much!
